Do you like to stay close to the old pagodas and temples? Then the hotels in Old Bagan or nearby will be the better location, as you can see on the Google Map mentioned above.

Aung Mingalar Hotel: Si Pin Thar Yar Road, opposite Shwe Si Gone Pagoda. Central location near restaurants, shops and bus station, but mixed reviews on booking.com and tripadvisor.com.

Aye Yar Riverview Resort: Near Bu Pagoda. After renovation of the resort quite good reviews on tripadvisor.com. See pictures on flickr.com.
The Hotel @ Tharabar Gate: Most of reception staff hardly speak English according to one review, noisy aircon in the room, critisizes another, but a renovation is ongoing according to another review on tripadvisor.com, and a Swiss general manager has arrived, so this hotel could be worth a try.

Between Old and New Bagan
Bagan Aureum Palace Hotel: Very good reviews on tripadvisor.com. The hotel is the property of U Tay Za, reportedly the richest man in the country — and a close associate of its former military dictator, General Than Shwe, as the New York Times reported.


The pool

Bagan Thande Hotel: From 65 USD. One two storey building and twenty-four chalet type bungalows, with swimming pool, on the banks of the Irrawaddy river. It was built in 1922 for the then Prince of Wales of Britain when he visited Bagan. Many very good reviews on tripadvisor.com.

Bawga Theiddhi Hotel: No 10 Myat lay Street. 50 rooms, swimming pool. Quite new, good reviews on tripadvisor.com. One person critisizes that Junior Suites have no windows and therefire recommends rooms in the main house.
