Twante Cruise on Dora: The ship Dora departs from Bohtataung Hetty, you board at 7:45 am. The cruise will take 6.5 hours by Twante canal, which connects the Yangon river to the Irrawaddy River. Twante lies 25 km southwest from Yangon and is known for its pottery business. Along the river you will see the rural and delta life (video). In Twante you can also visit Shwe Sandaw Pagoda, that has been built by the Mon. A slower and less costly way is by ferry from Yangon (2 hours, US$1). Or you can do one way be the ferry from Yangon to Dallah and from here by pickup bus to Twante. If you have your own transport, for example a motorbikerider, you may ask him to show you the pagoda with the snakes - Baungdawgyoke Pagoda - in the middle of a small like, where nuns are keeping pythons. It is situated off the Dala-Twante road, about 5 miles east of Twante. And it has been described by Time Travel Turtle.

In Twante you find about a dozen of major potteries and a lot of private households doing pottery as well. Clay is brought in from nearby villages and potters manipulate it into the required consistency. Laborers fashion the clay by hand into various shapes, they do it in teams of two: one looks after the spinning on the wheel, the other is responsible for the moulding. Afterwards the completed piece of pottery is left to dry in the sun and then fired for up to two days.
